Judgment by Abandonment: A Homily for Troubled Times By Don Kenobi

I've learned a great deal more about the Bible from discussing with MAGAs than from my conversations with intelligent people — and this is not a compliment. Not in the slightest.

Strangely, those exchanges forced me to return to Scripture — to search, to question, and to wrestle. Through it all, I’ve become a more grounded Christian, thanks to one simple mental operation I carried out in my head:

Substitute “MAGA” with “Antichristian” (or “Evil-heartedness”),
then apply that lens to some of the most complex social issues of our troubled times.

That framework clarified many things. And for this, I have to — somewhat begrudgingly — thank Jonothorn X, a proud MAGA from Cameroon.

Why? Because he led me, albeit in a roundabout way, to the powerful biblical concept of Judgment by Abandonment.

When God Uses the Wicked

One thing became clear: God may choose a wicked, unrighteous man to fulfill His purposes — especially when that purpose is judgment.

But to call such a man anointed?
That’s not just false. It’s heresy.

What Is Anointing?

Anointing, biblically speaking, is the act of pouring oil (or a symbolic equivalent) on someone to consecrate them — to set them apart for a divine purpose, like priesthood, kingship, or prophetic ministry.

But here’s the catch:

If the purpose is evil, how could God anoint it?

He may permit it.
He may use it.
But He does not bless it.

This is the heart of Judgment by Abandonment:
God lets people pursue the evil they crave — to their own destruction.

Strong Delusion and the Death of Truth

Only a strong delusion could cause a people who have been abandoned by God to believe that their downfall is actually divine cleansing.

2 Thessalonians 2:11–12 says it plainly:

Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

But why would God do this?

The verse before gives the answer — 2 Thessalonians 2:10:

“…because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”

Defending the Unrighteous in God's Name?

Let’s be clear:

No one can claim to love the truth while repeatedly turning it on its head
in defense of an unrighteous man,
doing so in the name of God,
and doing so for an entire decade.

That’s not faith.
That’s apostasy masquerading as loyalty.

What the Psalms Say

Psalm 92:6–7 speaks with brutal clarity:

“A senseless man does not know, and a fool does not understand,
that though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be forever destroyed.

The Lie of the Prosperity Gospel

Here lies the deadly deceit of the Prosperity Gospel:

The Bible teaches:
Though the wicked may prosper, their end will be destruction.

The Prosperity Gospel teaches:
Prosperity is proof of righteousness.

The result?
A deadly blurring of the line between good and evil.

Another Example: Romans 1 and Abandonment

Romans 1:24–28 gives us a textbook case of Judgment by Abandonment:

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts...
God gave them over to shameful lusts...
God gave them over to a depraved mind…”

There comes a point where God no longer contends.
He simply lets the wicked run their course — straight to ruin.

He Who Has Ears...

Mark 4:9:

“Then Jesus said, ‘Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.’”

I Rest My Case.

That’s my homily for today.
May we never confuse God’s patience with His approval, or His silence with His blessing.

Let the reader understand.
